THE JOURNEY by Crystal Starr Mahardy

THE JOURNEY

Standing in silence
as I wait for the command to breathe
Anxious to go over there
but still nervous enough that I don’t want to leave…
My bags are packed
and are on the ground by my feet,
now we’re getting on the buses
and driving down the street…
We won’t reach our destination
for another thirty hours or more
“Where are you going?” they ask us,
“We’re going to fight this war.”
We’ve reached the planes
and we’re all settled in,
just sitting and waiting
for our journey to begin…
The engines are now turning
as are the wheels in our minds,
in our hearts we’re yearning and we can’t help but to think,
have we saw our family and friends for the last time?
The plane is no longer on the ground
everyone’s quiet, all our minds racing,
we won’t relax until this war’s over
and we have no idea of what we will be facing…
The hours are quickly flying by
as we sit and stare out the windows
there’s something different about the sky
but what it is we just don’t know…
The plane is shifting and getting ready to land,
we are all ready with weapons in hand
and with one last deep breath, we all stand:
for our Family, our Friends, our Freedom, and America the Promised Land…
So for everyday that we are gone
even though you’re worried about us, please don’t cry
just remember that we love you and we’ll see you later
and that doesn’t mean goodbye…
Saying see you later doesn’t mean goodbye
and saying goodbye doesn’t mean forever.
Goodbye was never said so I’ll be back for you,
and I’ll be yours for always and forever!!!
